Stories of Living Peace

A 24-Hour Celebration of Resonance and Belonging

Sharing about the meaning of Nonviolent Communication in our lives, and our connection to the legacy of nonviolence

Forty-eight people. Forty-eight true stories about a moment when Nonviolent Communication touched their life. Told one at a time, half an hour at a time, across 24 unbroken hours and every time zone we can reach.

Each speaker also brings a small object that carries their story. At the end of their half-hour, they pass the object on - symbolically, through the Zoom screen - to the next voice, somewhere else in the world.

One thread of human meaning, circling the globe from sunrise to sunrise. Somewhere on Earth, the sun is always rising.

Why October 4th?

The date sits at the exact midpoint between two days that matter to us: the International Day of Non-Violence and Gandhi's birthday on 2 October, and Marshall Rosenberg's birthday on 6 October. A day to reflect and celebrate what nonviolence, peace and NVC mean in our lives.

A gathering in many languages

Speakers share in their own language. Alongside English, speakers will share in Japanese, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Hindi and Bahasa Malaysia - with automatic captions and translation throughout.

How the rhythm works

Every 30 minutes follows the same simple rhythm, so wherever you drop in, you'll know where you are.

  • Opening — hello, and a meaningful story is shared and an object is passed on
  • Story or sharing — this slot’s speaker shares a true memory, music, or poetry.
  • Silence or music — a few quiet minutes before the next hour begins.

can't wait? How to participate before the live event

What object carries “NVC essence” for you?

Every speaker brings an object that holds the essence of NVC for them.

We're inviting you to bring one too. Choose one small thing in your home that carries something of NVC for you - a giraffe-shaped stone, a photo, a cup, anything at all. Something that holds your story.

Share your object with others: pin yourself and your object on the map

Add yourself to the map below:

  1. Pin your town or region (not your street address).
  2. Add a photo of your object.
  3. Write one line: why does it hold the essence of NVC for you?

During the event, we will watch the lights grow across the map, hour by hour.

A small heads-up before you pin

When you click the pink + Post button, you'll first see a screen called "Pick a location". Just tap "Skip for now" at the top right. You'll then add your photo, your one line, and your location - in that order - and hit Publish/Submit.

How to take part

Join for one hour, for several, or come and go all day. You choose how much to take part:

📷

Camera off is welcome

🚪

Come and go as you like

👂

Presence is participation

You may be invited into small groups, personal sharing, or a body exercise. You can say no to any of them.

A softer, more grounded day than most. A chance to feel less separate from the rest of it all, if just for a while.
