The Center for Nonviolent Communication is an international nonprofit peacemaking organization. We believe that everyone’s needs matter and dialogue can resolve differences peacefully. Every day we support learners, trainers, and change agents around the world to create create an environment where everyone's needs can be met peacefully.

HISTORY

Our organization was founded in 1984 by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg (1934-2015), a clinical psychologist from the U.S. He first developed Nonviolent Communication in the 1960s in federally-funded school integration projects, where he provided mediation and communication skills training. For several decades, Dr. Rosenberg traveled the globe, sharing peacemaking skills in more than 40 countries.

RESOURCES we PROVIDE

  • NVC trainer certification process: comparable to an independent study master’s degree program. This rigorous NVC certification process helps protect the integrity of NVC teaching. 
  • More than 900 Certified Trainers who offer workshops and seminars in over 65 countries on six continents, touching the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world. You can find some of these events here.
  • Newsletter that helps to connect the movement, celebrate progress and continue to spread NVC. 
  • Store with books, videos, and learning materials in 15 different languages, and growing. 

CORE ACTIVITIES

Governance

The Center for Nonviolent Communication is governed by seven individuals who are elected by the Members to serve on the Board of Directors. The Board creates policies, creates a governance system, exercises fiduciary responsibility, and hires and oversees the Executive Director.
