I am 27 years old and currently in the final stages of my degree in communication psychology. I also work in public relations and corporate communications and supplement my theoretical knowledge from university with practical experience. In my free time, I enjoy making music, singing and my husband plays the piano and guitar, reading, being in nature (whether cycling or hiking) and discovering the world.

I grew up with non-violent communication and am very grateful for the values that I was able to learn from an early age. After graduating from high school, I started to actively engage with it myself and I really value it in my life. Whether for contact with myself, my husband or other people. I am particularly keen to pass on non-violent communication to young people and to exchange ideas and learn together with people my own age.  I published a book about my experiences of growing up with non-violent communication in 2023.

Hi, I’m Sarah Uwer, born in 1978 in Switzerland, and I live together with my partner in Bern. I like to stay active, love matcha lattes for breakfast, and enjoy a warm bath in the winter.

A quote from a postcard in New Zealand touched something deep within me and has guided my path ever since. It said: “To observe without judgment is to witness the Goddess.” That led me to an extensive yoga training and to Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

When I wanted to learn a different style of communicating for my work I discovered something that goes far beyond communication itself and which has been transforming my inner attitude ever since. NVC serves as a process of self‑reflection that continually invites me to connect with myself and with others. Once clarity about needs emerges, something magical happens and this can lead to solutions that previously seemed impossible.

I’m an NVC Trainer Candidate and alongside my work in movement and health promotion, I teach yoga and adult education. In my courses, I aim to create a safe space for experiences. The body is, for me, a powerful gateway to the wisdom that lives within us.

After attending two International Intensive Trainings (IITs) and many other NVC learning experiences, I am happy to be part of the organizing team for the Switzerland 2027 IIT. I have personally experienced how profound and enriching these spaces can be and wish to contribute to creating a framework in which such experiences become possible. I look forward to welcoming you here in Switzerland and hope that this IIT will be a place where we not only understand NVC but truly live it with ourselves and with one another.

Kia ora, greetings,

My name is Kaya,

I am a Candidate for Certification as a Trainer in Nonviolent Communication (NVC). I have been studying and practicing NVC consistently since attending my first International Intensive Training (IIT) in 2023, an experience that profoundly shifted my relationship to myself and others.

I am part of the organising team for the IIT, Aotearoa 2026, because my first IIT experience restored my hope that authentic connection across differences is truly possible. My earliest understanding of radical nonviolence came through learning about the Parihaka movement in Aotearoa, New Zealand, which strongly influenced my commitment to finding alternative approaches to conflict and social change. NVC offers a practical framework, community and philosophy which I practice and live everyday.
I am committed to contributing to this IIT because I believe deeply in the healing and connective power of NVC, in representing and supporting my own Māori community, and in shaping the culture and world that I want to exist for my mokopuna (grandchildren).

I was drawn to NVC through a deep concern for division and suffering in the world. From my experience with NVC, healing is possible through self-connection, radical self-responsibility, and the capacity to remain in connection with others across differences.

My primary interests include social change, needs-based therapeutic approaches, and exploring the relationship between NVC consciousness and the Dharma. I primarily use NVC to support in daily life and I am working toward offering individual and group NVC education. I integrate NVC with lived experiences from applied neurology, trauma-informed perspectives, tikanga Māori, and metabolic health.

My role as an organiser and candidate for certification represents a public commitment to deepening my courage, compassion, and skills for the benefit of all living beings.

I began learning Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in 2012 with the late Dorsett Campbell-Ross, but it was after attending the IIT in Bali in 2017 that I truly began to connect with the deeper, felt experience of NVC.

Since 2015, I’ve been sharing NVC frameworks across Indonesia. In 2019, I licensed The No-Fault Zone® Game from Sura Hart (a US-based NVC trainer), recognizing its potential to support the spread of NVC in Indonesia.

During the pandemic, my focus shifted toward a body-sensation-based approach to NVC, which I’ve found to be more accessible and resonant within the Indonesian cultural context.

Over the past three years, I’ve been offering NVC trainings under my brand Empathic Living in cities such as Denpasar, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Magelang. At the same time, I’ve also restarted my NVC certification journey, with Jesse Chu as my assessor.

My name is Steve Maina from Kenya. I am excited to be part of the organising team of the Kenyan IIT.

I came across NVC 14 years ago, immediately after our country Kenya had the 2007/08 Post Election Violence which had really troubled me. I longed to contribute to be part of stopping a repeat of the same in the next electioneering period. I thank Marshall Rosenberg as NVC came in handy.

I have since joined the certification journey and I am enjoying the journey at my own pace as I try to integrate it in my day-to-day life.

I was part of organizing the Kenyan 2024 NVC retreat and was happy to be part of this milestone which brought young people from African and had an experience of NVC, some for the first time.

I am currently part of the team that is translating the Marshall Rosenberg book - Language of life to Swahili so that it can be supportive to the Swahili Speaking East African residents, who have a challenge in understanding English.

I long to support and contribute to more people get this experience of NVC, social change and empathy.

Being born and raised in Switzerland I always dreamt of another life in a warm country and so, in 2006, I left Switzerland. I did not imagine it would be a goodbye for good but I have not returned to live there since. After traveling the world for some months, I ended up in Costa Rica, the place not only where my son was born but where I was reborn.

I love to connect with nature and I am a big animal lover. Going on my daily beach walks with my dogs early in the morning is my meditation and it is where I can get grounded and connect with mother earth and myself. Costa Rica has a wonderfully special energy, which invites you to look deeper and reconnect with yourself and nature.

I was gifted with a son whose soul clearly came to this world to guide and transform me. It very soon was clear, I cannot parent this child the way I was parented. It would mean rebellion and constant conflict and a lot of power over and lack of autonomy and freedom of choice. This did not align with me at all and I decided to look for support.

Finding NVC was like finding the language to describe what I feel in my belly, what my intuition tells me, or in other words, I discovered my feelings and needs and started to understand them. It was such a relief for my mind, to finally be able to understand what my heart always knew and have a concept for what I always felt.

Since I can remember I have this deep desire to be an active part of change in this world. I have been working with the local community for over a decade, first through a project where we held workshops about menstruation and handed out free menstruation cups to the participants. Now I am eager to bring NVC into our canton, which is the least developed and poorest of Costa Rica and an area often forgotten by the government.

I want to share NVC because I truly believe in its power and magnificence. My dream is to spread NVC in Latin America and make it accessible also to the ones with less resources. I am currently on the path to become a CNVC certified trainer. I am also active in creating NVC community within Costa Rica, especially where I am at home, offering NVC workshops for free or at an affordable price to low-income communities.
