My name is Steve Maina from Kenya. I am excited to be part of the organising team of the Kenyan IIT.

I came across NVC 14 years ago, immediately after our country Kenya had the 2007/08 Post Election Violence which had really troubled me. I longed to contribute to be part of stopping a repeat of the same in the next electioneering period. I thank Marshall Rosenberg as NVC came in handy.

I have since joined the certification journey and I am enjoying the journey at my own pace as I try to integrate it in my day-to-day life.

I was part of organizing the Kenyan 2024 NVC retreat and was happy to be part of this milestone which brought young people from African and had an experience of NVC, some for the first time.

I am currently part of the team that is translating the Marshall Rosenberg book - Language of life to Swahili so that it can be supportive to the Swahili Speaking East African residents, who have a challenge in understanding English.

I long to support and contribute to more people get this experience of NVC, social change and empathy.

Ha struggled for a long time to find a way to be true to herself while living harmoniously in relationships and contributing to the organizations and communities she belongs to. In 2019, the answer came when she learned about Nonviolent Communication. Since then, Ha has been learning, practicing and sharing NVC with individuals and organizations who want to nurture connections with themselves and others. Ha completed two NVC International Intensive Training. However, the most effective training ground for her has been her home, where she applies NVC with her large extended family and her two daughters..

NVC explorer

I started my NVC journey in 2005, inspired by the changes that suddenly happened for my mother, after many years of her suffering from social fear/phobia.The reason for her change was her inner work with the NVC tools.
My own goal was, the thought of, that maybe, I could learn to be the peace in the world, I wanted. Still learning ; )

Besides being still in training, I have had motivating experience using the tools from NVC in case management for debilitating illness, and have offered support to others who needed help in similar situations. It can be between state departments and a challenged person, between sick person and hospital ect.

I was involved in organising the IIT in Denmark in 2017, which was a joyful, heartwarming and motivating experience. To be in a place, surrounded by people from different cultures and parts of the world, all willing to dive into the NVC world, landed in me as a totally magical experience, and I would like again, to contribute to the outer form and frame for an IIT, in which that may unfold again.

You know how leaders rarely get honest feedback about their behavior. Most of the time they are alone, lonely and prone to exercise power over others. This has negative impact on engagement, well-being, satisfaction and results of their teams.

What I do is help leaders navigate the change by being their behavioral consciousness and sparring partner, providing them relational space where they can have regular, honest feedback. I motivate leaders and their teams commit to an outcome that they can all fully support.

I am an experienced executive coach with 12 years of practice working with CEOs, sports coaches, professional athletes and leaders on a mission to improve their organizations for the better of their communities.
