After working as an architect and refusing to kill and even to learn how to kill, Jean-François was recognized as a conscientious objector and did two years' Civil Service. He then trained in various therapeutic and personal development approaches, as well as in Nonviolent Direct Action and Nonviolent Conflict Management, notably with Harcourt Klinefelter, a trainer in the civil rights campaigns organized by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the United States.
In 1976, Jean-François answered the call from the University of Peace to coordinate training courses for young conscientious objectors in civil service. In 1978, at the end of his training as a trainer with Jacques Lalanne (Quebec), he was appointed as a trainer in Effective Communication, the method of Dr. Thomas Gordon.
In 1992, Jean-François met the founder of Nonviolent Communication, Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, at a training course in Switzerland. Moved by Marshall's presentation, the following year (1993) he introduced NVC in Belgium with the help of the Université de Paix. In 1998, Marshall Rosenberg certified him as a trainer in Nonviolent Communication, and he worked until his death to spread this process communication and conflict resolution. He was particularly interested in the development of a universal ethical and spiritual awareness in the learning of Nonviolent Communication.
Après avoir travaillé comme architecte avec Claude Strebelle à l'Atelier d'Architecture du Sart-Tilman (ULg) et après avoir refusé de tuer et même d'apprendre à tuer, je suis reconnu en tant qu'objecteur de conscience et j'effectue un Service Civil de deux ans. Puis je me forme à diverses approches thérapeutiques et de développement personnel ainsi qu'à l'Action Directe Nonviolente et à la Gestion Nonviolente des Conflits, notamment avec Harcourt Klinefelter, formateur dans les campagnes pour les droits civiques organisées par Martin-Luther King aux Etats-Unis.
En 1976, je réponds à l'appel de l'Université de Paix pour coordonner les formations pour les jeunes Objecteurs de Conscience en Service Civil. En 1978, à l’issue de la formation de formateur suivie avec Jacques Lalanne (Québec), celui-ci me nomme formateur en Communication Efficace, méthode du Dr. Thomas Gordon.
En 1992, je rencontre le fondateur de la Communication Nonviolente, le Dr. Marshall Rosenberg à l'occasion d'une formation que celui-ci donne en Suisse. Touché par sa présentation, je l’introduis dès l'année suivante (1993) en Belgique avec l'aide de l'Université de Paix. En 1998, Marshall Rosenberg me certifie formateur en Communication Nonviolente et je ne cesse depuis d'oeuvrer à la diffusion de ce processus nonviolent de communication et de résolution de conflits. Je suis particulièrement intéressé par le développement d'une conscience éthique et spirituelle universelle dans l'apprentissage de la Communication Nonviolente.
J'ai accompagné soeur Marie-Jacques Stassen et Rehana Rymanby dans leur parcours de certification des nouveaux formateurs à la CNV. Aujourd'hui, j'accompagne Evelyne Somville.
