"Nature Communicates instinctively, from the mycelium beneath my feet connecting the threads of Earth, to the soil that I walk on and eat from, to the air that I breathe, to the clouds that provide waters, to the sun that activates my life. All are interrelated and interdependent. This is how I learn and am guided"

When I became aware of NVC, I was struck by the way that, by diving into the very essence of it, that it can teach us to unlearn our violent and disconnecting ways of communicating and return to a way of communicating that is in line with Nature. I don’t know about you, but I came from a culture that communicated through a shame and blame model.

I live in the intersections, as a Xicana/e two spirit/lesbian/indigi-queer working class elder. I am second generation to US on my mother side, my grandmother coming from what is known as Chihuahua Mexico, the land of the Rarámuri. I’m second generation on my mother’s side, also, as my grandfather came from El Salvador, the land of the Nahua-Pipil. On my father’s side, my people are from what is known as southern Texas on the lands of several indigenous peoples. Within all of my heritage there are also my ancestors from Europe, predominantly Spain.

Ever since I was young, I have strongly identified with my indigenous ancestors and have struggled with healing from the trauma caused by my European ancestors, being both the colonized and the colonizer. Once I began the journey of recognizing and understanding how much our communication and connection or disconnection comes from needs being met or not met, I had so many realizations and awakenings. I became very passionate about NVC, first where I was working as we had decided as a staff to explore NVC as a way of communicating and exploring needs.

As I began to realize that this consciousness was becoming a part of my spiritual practice, part of my personal and generational healing, I was eager to learn more, connect more with others who are also passionate and to share with others the potential of utilizing in NVC in all aspects of communication and self-care/self-healing. My primary focus is to share NVC as much as possible with those in the margins, those living in the columns of isms that don’t often have access to self-care and the potential financial costs involved.

Visions for my work:
- Sharing the fundamentals for those newer and who want review
I really enjoy sharing peoples’ passion waking up to the possibilities that NVC brings
- Sharing the intersection of NVC and the 12 Step communities
- Working with Healers and how healing tools also intersect with NVC consciousness
- Workshops focusing on self-empathy and empathy practices
- Mediation and/or facilitating conversations with individuals who are struggling to be
seen and heard
- Incorporating Key Differentiations in all aspects of sharing NVC
- Ultimately creating workshops that bring NVC into our daily spiritual practices

May Nonviolent Communication support us in staying connected in this world that can bring so much disconnection. May Nonviolent Communication return us to equilibrium and our interconnectedness. May we meet and recognize each other on this Journey and may we learn and remember together.
“I think that nonviolence is one way of saying that there are other ways to solve problems, not only through weapons and war. Nonviolence also means the recognition that the person on one side of the trench and the person on the other side of the trench are both human beings, with the same faculties. At some point they have to begin to understand one another.”
