For most of my professional life, I have worked in the field of peacebuilding. Discovering Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in 2012 was a turning point for me. I had been searching for an approach that could support deep and sustainable transformation in relationships and conflicts, and NVC offered exactly that.

My goal is to integrate NVC into peacebuilding work, and over the years I have had the opportunity to share trainings in countries such as Colombia, Bolivia, and Bangladesh.

What I appreciate most about NVC is that it can be both connecting and liberating. It helps us build a connection with ourselves and with others, while also freeing us from limiting beliefs, judgments, and patterns of thinking.

In my trainings, I particularly enjoy linking this personal liberation and connection, especially for people who are living in crisis or conflict settings, with practical ways to connect and communicate with each other in families and communities.

Compassionate communication can contribute to strengthening their agency to find strategies for collective action and contribute to transforming structures and systems.

I believe that NVC can be a powerful catalyst for social change. It not only transforms how we communicate with one another, but also how we understand and respond to the systems and structures that shape our lives.

By learning to recognize the needs underlying our own actions and those of others, we create space for dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaboration.

At the same time, NVC strengthens our self-awareness, helping us recognize situations in which our needs are not being met because of unequal or unjust structures. From this awareness, we can name these realities, advocate for change, and work together to create social systems that promote the well-being, dignity, and flourishing of all people.
