Boris Nauta
Certified Trainer since 2024
I am Boris Nauta, born in Nijmegen, The Netherlands in 1974 and now located in Amsterdam. After working for two decades in television, design, and digital advertising, I started Equanimity in 2021, offering training in Nonviolent Communication, Mindfulness, and emotional intelligence. My life changed fundamentally after hitting a wall several times. Fleeing unresolved grief, I overworked, combined my stressful job with musical performances, and indulged in nightlife, which eventually led to serious illness. It took years to regain my health, only to fall into the same trap again, resulting in burnout, deep depression, and a broken marriage. But finally, I realized things had to change.
I love being fully immersed in my activities, whether it's a new assignment, making music, sports, or spending time with my children. However, avoiding stillness was a way to escape confronting emptiness and painful emotions. Nonviolent Communication helps me stay in touch with my emotions and needs and those of others, allowing me to take care of myself and others. On a societal level, I see the value of Nonviolent Communication in fostering genuine connections. In a world where digital communication often replaces real contact, I worry about increasing social distance. Nonviolent Communication helps bridge this gap, fostering empathy and connection rather than polarization.
With a background in Communication Sciences, I began my career in 1999 as an interaction designer at the Dutch Broadcasting Production Company. I later moved into interactive advertising as a creative producer, working on high-profile campaigns. For the past 15 years, I have freelanced as a program and operations manager for notable companies like Heineken International, Royal Philips, and Polestar and helped found THNK School of Creative Leadership. My strength lies in building professional, creative, inclusive, and safe teams.
Since 2016, I have been deeply involved in studying Mindfulness, Nonviolent Communication, and Emotional Intelligence. I am trained as a Mindfulness and compassion coach at the University of Nijmegen and completed various training courses in Nonviolent Communication.
