Year-Long Learning Community
Deepening Practice/Learning in Community/Sharing NVC
By: Cordelia Addison
About this course
This year-long learning community is for people who want to deepen their integration and practice of Nonviolent Communication within an ongoing group.
It is designed for experienced NVC practitioners, people considering the CNVC certification path, and Certification Candidates who want a consistent community in which to continue learning, practising and growing.
We will meet for nine six-hour sessions across 2027. Having the same group together over the course of a year gives us the opportunity to create continuity in learning together and receiving feedback within a trusted environment.
Each session will combine learning and practice around a particular area of NVC with empathy, demonstrations, exercises, role-play, reflection and work with situations participants bring from their own lives.
There will also be opportunities to practise sharing or facilitating NVC, receive feedback, and learn from one another.
What we will explore
Across the year, we will deepen our practice in areas including:
Self-connection and NVC consciousness — recognising our habitual responses and returning to choice, presence and connection with needs
Empathy — deepening our capacity to stay present with another person, particularly when emotions are strong or we are personally triggered
Honest expression and dialogue — speaking authentically and finding our own natural language for NVC
Working with conflict — practising difficult conversations, hearing challenging messages, transforming enemy images and exploring mediation
NVC processes and Dance Floors — using embodied and structured processes to explore situations more deeply
Anger, guilt, shame and other strong emotions — exploring what these experiences can show us and how we can work with them through NVC
Needs-based choices — working with inner conflict, boundaries, yes and no, requests, strategies and decisions
Integration in everyday life — bringing NVC into relationships, work, family, community and the situations where living it can be most challenging
Giving and receiving feedback — using feedback as an opportunity for learning, connection and greater awareness
Sharing NVC with others — developing your own voice and experimenting with facilitating, explaining or demonstrating NVC
Reflective practice — using journaling, feedback and reflection to recognise learning, identify growing edges and choose areas for practice between sessions
The CNVC certification journey — exploring certification, developing a portfolio and working with questions, learning edges and experiences arising from the certification process
We may spend longer on an area when there is more energy or a shared learning edge around it, bring in additional NVC processes, or change the emphasis of a session in response to what is happening in the group.
This is a living learning community: with enough structure to support depth and progression, and enough openness for us to work with what is most alive in the moment.
Format
The group will meet online for nine sessions of six hours, from January through December 2027. Each day runs from 15:00–18:00 and 19:00–22:00, with a one-hour food break from 18:00–19:00. Zoom will remain open during the break for anyone who would like to eat together, talk or connect informally.
Throughout the year, you will be invited to practise between sessions, connect with other participants and bring your experiences back to the group. You can also use the time between sessions to explore a particular learning edge or area of NVC that you want to develop.
