  • Listen beyond the words to connect with the feelings and needs underneath.
  • Stay present without fixing even when loved ones are struggling.
  • Move from head to heart with empathy guesses that feel natural and connecting.
  • Build your skills through live practice in a supportive, guided space.

This course is for you if you have a basic understanding of NVC and are ready to deepen your empathy skills through live practice.

The Holidays Are Coming. Are Your Relationships Ready?

Family gatherings, intense conversations, end-of-year stress can push our emotional buttons. When a loved one vents, we often fall back on robotic, rote responses because our heads are spinning.

Do you find yourself:

  • Offering empty phrases like "Don't worry about that!" just to keep the peace?
  • Feeling overwhelmed by family drama and wishing you could stay present without taking on the burden of solving their issues?
  • Repeating exactly what someone said like a mechanical test of your listening skills, rather than connecting?
  • Longing for sincere connection amidst the festive noise, superficial small talk or not knowing how to start a meaningful conversation?

It’s Not a Head Thing. It’s a Heart Thing.

Empathy is actually a relaxing process. It is the art of ignoring the literal words so you can focus on the primary feelings and needs underneath.

When you learn to translate words into a heart-centered guess, something beautiful happens. You soften. Your heart opens. The other person feels "got."

That moment of true understanding is a balm for the human soul. Imagine bringing that level of breathtaking connection to your dinner table, your friendships, and your workplace this season.

The Difference Between "Head Empathy" and "Heart Empathy"

  • With your aging dad: When he worries that you and your siblings won't stay close after he passes, bypass the usual, "Oh, you don't have to worry about that!" Instead, offer: "Ohhhh. You'd really like reassurance that we value each other enough to stay connected on our own?"
  • With a stressed family member: Instead of a generic, robotic "That sounds hard," you look behind the words: "It sounds like you love seeing everyone, but you're also feeling overwhelmed by all the tasks involved in nurturing everyone, and you’re wanting more quiet time to rejuvenate?"
  • At a festive gathering: When someone expresses a vulnerable thought and others try to shut down any potential emotion, you interject: "Wow. It sounds like you’re scared that losing your job will have a major affect on your family, and at the same time there’s a tiny voice in your head that’s actually celebrating the opportunity to find a job that’s more meaningful for you? Is that right?” Watch them light up as they realize they have been truly understood.
