Foundations of Trust and Connection
Bringing Nonviolent Communication and Nervous System Wisdom to Our Relationships with Children
By: Mary May
Perhaps you know this moment.
Something happens. Your child needs you when you are in the middle of a task, says “no”, cries, or simply takes longer than you anticipated.
You feel the tension rising.
Before you know it, your voice is louder. You're rushing. You're trying to get through the moment instead of being in it. And somewhere beneath it all, there may be a quiet awareness:
This isn't how I want to be with you.
Perhaps that awareness comes in the moment. Perhaps it comes afterward, when things are quiet again.
That moment of awareness matters.
It can be easy to focus on what we wish we had done differently. Yet the part of you that notices—the part that longs for more compassion, connection, and care—is already pointing toward what matters deeply to you.
What if these moments aren't asking you to become better at getting it right?
What if they are inviting you into a deeper relationship with what is happening—within you, within the child, and in the space between you?
A deeper curiosity not only about difficult moments, but about what it means to be human: to have needs, to feel deeply, to long for connection, and to find our way back to ourselves and one another.
Perhaps the invitation is not simply to respond differently, but to become more available to life—to meet ourselves, our children, and the unfolding moments between us with greater presence, compassion, and aliveness.
Foundations of Trust and Connection brings together Nonviolent Communication and nervous system wisdom to explore these questions with curiosity and compassion.
Together, we'll move beyond simply knowing what we would like to do and toward expanding our capacity to be—more present with ourselves and more available for attuned connection with children.
You'll explore how our nervous systems are communicating with each other, deepen your awareness of what you and the children in your life may be experiencing and needing, and discover pathways toward greater choice, self-connection, repair and trust.
You don't need to have all the answers. You don't need to be calm all the time.
There is another possibility: developing greater capacity to meet the ups and downs of life with awareness and compassion—and gradually finding more steadiness, clarity, and trust in yourself, your relationships, and the path forward.
If something in these words feels familiar—if they name something you've sensed but haven't quite had words for—we invite you to join us in exploring the Foundations of Trust and Connection.
