Talking to Myself: Self-Empathy and Befriending Inner Critics

Tuesdays May 28 and June 4 from 6:00-8:15 pm ET

Do you communicate with yourself with criticism, condemnation, demands or in other harsh ways? Join us to learn and practice a self-empathy approach for empowering inner dialogues. Reveal the gift behind the harshness so you can understand and reconcile with those self-critical parts of us. This workshop teaches the NVC Self-Empathy Dance Floor ( tool as well as drawing from the teachings of Internal Family Systems. This workshop is two consecutive Tuesday evenings. In the week following each session, you will meet with a peer partner for more practice and integration.

Tuition: $145      

We want everyone to have access. If cost is a barrier, there is flexibility. Contact Henry before the start to discuss how we can include you.

Requested preparation:

- 8 hours or equivalent of NVC training
- an understanding of
      – the intention of NVC
      – the definition and purpose of observation, feeling, need and request
      – communication which blocks compassion and its gift 
- some practice applying NVC in your life

About the Facilitator:

Henry Wai has 28 years of experience leading trainings and delivering programs in Canada, England and the United States. Henry offers coaching and training for corporate, government, healthcare and community organization employees as well as public trainings.

Henry was introduced to Nonviolent Communication™ (NVC) by Marshall Rosenberg in 2000 and completed several trainings with Marshall. Henry’s early mentors were Gina Lawrie and Bridget Belgrave who developed the NVC Dance Floors

He has been a certified NVC trainer since 2004 and particularly delights in sharing NVC fundamentals with beginners.

Prior to NVC certification, Henry worked as a trainer and service provider in various sectors — housing, food co-ops, volunteer management, adult education, social enterprise and youth employment.

Henry’s capacity for presence has been supported through a variety of experiences:
- Zen Hospice Project volunteer,
- insight meditation practitioner,
- studying Psychology in university,
- growing up as a person of color in Canada, and
- contact improvisation dance.
