# Finance Coordinator

**Fully remote • Part-time US employee • ~25-30 hours/week** • You can also check associated [Finance Controller role](https://www.cnvc.org/about/jobs/finance-controller-role)---

#### About the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC)

Founded in 1984, the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) is a global organization dedicated to sharing the teachings of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) as developed by [Dr. Marshall Rosenberg](https://www.cnvc.org/about/founder). Our mission is to unite and support people who learn, share, and apply Nonviolent Communication around the world.

#### About the Role

The Finance Coordinator holds the day-to-day life of CNVC's Finance function. You are the person who makes the operational reality work — payroll, receivables, payables, international payments, reconciliations — and who becomes the go-to expert on how our multi-currency, multi-country financial life actually flows.

This is a hands-on role that also carries a distinctly human dimension. Financial matters at CNVC often carry human context — cancellations, refunds, late payments, scholarship questions — that call for both administrative accuracy and thoughtful communication. You will be a first point of contact for the community on these matters, applying both accurate administration and the empathic communication our community expects.

The role sits within a Finance function currently being re-articulated. Our long-serving Finance Coordinator retires at the end of 2026, and the person joining will help shape how the function works going forward, in partnership with the incoming Finance Controller.

## Questions

Please respond to the following questions. We are flexible regarding the length of your responses and understand that they may vary.

While our forms are generally reliable, we recommend saving your answers in a separate document before submitting, in case of any technical issues.

1️⃣ Are you legally authorized to work as a US W-2 employee (US citizen, permanent resident, or valid US work authorization)? \* Yes

 No

2️⃣ Select all the options that apply to your experience \* I have 3+ years of nonprofit or mission-driven finance operations experience

I'm proficient in QuickBooks Online Advanced

I have experience with QuickBooks Online Payroll multi-state administration

 I'm comfortable with multi-currency reconciliation

3️⃣ This role is fully remote within a team distributed across multiple time zones and countries. Describe a specific practice or habit you have developed to work effectively in an asynchronous environment. What has worked well, and what have you had to adjust over time?

4️⃣ A participant paid $850 via Stripe for a training registration. The class in QBO is set up as a Restricted Fund. Two weeks later, the participant cancels and requests a refund. Walk us through the sequence of QBO entries you would make (accounts affected, class treatment) and note anything you would flag to your Controller before processing.

5️⃣ During your monthly reconciliation of the Wise EUR account, you notice that a transfer of €4,200 shows up in Wise but does not appear in QBO. The transfer memo says "Colombia Training — R&B refund distribution." You do a quick search in QBO and find no matching entry. Describe the first three steps you would take.

6️⃣ Our Finance function is in transition, and some processes have been carried mainly in the current Coordinator's head for years. During your first three months, you will encounter situations where the "how it's done" is not documented anywhere. Describe your approach to those moments — both practically (what you do) and relationally (how you engage with the outgoing Coordinator and with your Controller).

7️⃣ Share a brief example (real or hypothetical) of a time you handled a routine administrative task in a way that took the human context into account, without compromising accuracy.

8️⃣ A trainer certified in a country where the local currency has recently devalued sharply writes to bookkeeping@ asking whether their next honorarium can be converted to euros at the exchange rate that was applied when their engagement was agreed six months ago, rather than at today's rate. The gap represents about $180. How would you respond, and what would you do before responding?

9️⃣ What is motivating you to apply for this position? How do you imagine you would fit in our organizational culture?

## Anything Else

Do you have any questions for us? Is there anything else you would like to add?
