Job Opening:
The Center for Nonviolent Communication is hiring a full-time Programs Director to lead our public programming, including our 9-day International Intensive Trainings (IITs). Over time, this person will also lead the expansion of our programming to include continuing education for Certified Trainers, Virtual Intensive Training (VITs) and global projects where we unite and provide support to people applying Nonviolent Communication in education, mental health, social change and peacemaking, and in justice, legal, and economic systems.
The Program Director will report to the Executive Director and also work closely with the Programs Resource Circle, the elected group consisting of Certified Trainers who oversee certain policies and decisions related to programs. The Programs Director’s immediate role will be to supervise all programs-related staff, build relationships with organizers and trainers, and to solidify our existing systems in order to increase the number of intensive trainings.
Format:
This is a remote position, so you can work from anywhere in the world as long as you have reliable internet access. Travel might be involved 2-4 times per year. This will likely be a salaried position at 30 to 40 hours per week and we estimate that 25% of your work hours will be collaborating with others at set times, and 75% working on a schedule that you set yourself.
Language:
Our international team works in English so you must be fluent with speaking, reading, and writing in English. However, we welcome people with a mother tongue other than English and in fact, it is a strength to speak more than one language since we work with people around the world. We celebrate that we are an international organization and our staff includes people from diverse cultural backgrounds and geographical locations.
Responsibilities:
- Take leadership for our 9-day immersive trainings, ensuring that everyone involved has the resources and support they need to produce successful events.
- Convene and facilitate meetings with organizers, trainers, on-site coordinators, project managers, and others involved in our programs.
- Hire and supervise staff members working in the area of programming including our Programs Coordinator, Programs Assistant, and other part-time or temporary staff or contractors.
- Enhance and maintain our system for documentation, record keeping, and data management in the area of programs.
- Provide leadership on a variety of projects while developing a synergistic partnership with the Executive Director.

- Enhances and enriches the work of colleagues in a support and coaching role while also ensuring quality and oversight as a supervisor.
- Effectively works with people from around the world from diverse backgrounds and cultural norms.
- Familiar with and comfortable using online technologies including databases, websites, Google Suite of products, and task management systems. Adapts quickly to new online technologies.
- Perspective about how to prioritize resources to achieve the most results with the least amount of effort.
Compensation and Hours:
The Programs Director will be a full-time (30-40 hours) salaried position that will pay range of what you might earn working for a comparable NGO or nonprofit organization, which we estimate will be USD $60,000 to $85,000 per year. In addition, you will receive benefits such as paid time off, sick pay, and professional development training.
For the ideal candidate, we are open to negotiating your work schedule, hours per week, and precise job duties to best match your strengths. This position will evolve over time based upon organizational needs, what you are good at doing, and what you enjoy doing.

Founded in 1984, the Center for Nonviolent Communication is a global organization (registered in the U.S.) that shares the teachings of Nonviolent Communication as developed by the clinical psychologist and peacemaker, Dr. Marshall Rosenberg (1934-2015). Our mission is to help people peacefully resolve conflicts in personal, organizational, and political settings.
We have an annual budget of approximately USD $1.25 million with trainers, organizers, and supporting members in 70 countries. Our staff works remotely (we do not have a physical office), sponsoring intensive trainings, operating a trainer certification program, promoting products, and serving as the global hub for people interested in Nonviolent Communication.
Our 750 Certified Trainers come from diverse backgrounds from around the world, many of whom share Nonviolent Communication in more than one language, and contribute to systemic and social change to help create a world in which everyone has access to the resources they need to survive and thrive.
