Al Tinholt's special interest in interpersonal conflict transformation and empathetic communication took root in 1994 when he worked with youth peer support in school in service programs (OFNR related). In 1995 he combined his love of the outdoors in co-founding a program of transformative outdoor leadership based on experiential small group process in the backcountry of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. He has completed NVC international intensive training (IIT) with Marshall Rosenberg and among other qualifications is certified as Grief Recovery Specialist. He brings to the table a passion for conscious communication (NVC based), conflict transformation, grief recovery method, empathetic connection, compassionate spirituality, restorative circles and conscious leadership. Among other things he has climbed 100 summits in 35 different countries and has an inclination towards jazz guitar.
In his spare time Al is also a professionally registered award winning biological and environmental engineering consultant with extensive experience facilitating multi-stakeholder groups, chairing leadership and advocacy committees, technical forums and corporate board tables. He has mediated conflicts at many levels of government, private corporations, non-government organizations, at the workplace, in community and between individuals.
