I am very grateful for what I am learning through CNVC. NVC presents a form of education and influence that is a profound alternative to the form of education/ influence that most of us have had foisted upon us. Each of us learned to pay attention to what the authorities in our life told us was "right and wrong" and "good and bad." We became oriented to diagnose and determine when someone deserves reward and when punishment. This form of education is all around us like water is to a fish. We diagnose and judge, express approval/ disapproval so quickly that we often don't recognize that we have done it. In this familiar form of education, we tend to focus on winning, getting our way and being right. We learn to ignore the wisdom of our bodies and our hearts.
NVC is a wonderful alternative to this old path of education and influence. It involves paying attention and connecting to what is "alive" in people; their feelings and needs. It attempts to build relationships upon trust, cooperation and valuing of all people.
John Denver wrote a song "I Want To Live." Listen to it, and then imagine how life would change if we could hear everything said or done as an expression of some form of this life energy. I've noticed that to this very day, I have often continued the old familiar form of education and influence. I've also noticed that the more I listen and speak "NVC," the more I experience what is precious in myself and in others. I am grateful for new choices, new possibilities for a quality of connection that causes little miracles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_llKly2V70
