Details
The month-long Work Scholar Program at the international retreat center, Esalen Institute, offers adults of all ages the opportunity to engage in a work-exchange and to study of the "topic of the month." CNVC certified trainer Jean Morrison is the Work Scholar Leader the month of Oct 27-Nov 24, offering the study and integration of the principles and practices of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Interested participants formally apply to the Work Scholar Program. (see the website: Esalen.org). 25 students are chosen from dozens of applications, based on their interest, availability and willingness to work in exchange for the experience of living and learning in community. Work duties include cabins, gardens, or kitchen. Rooms are cleaned; vegetables are planted, weeded, and harvested for meals; and 300 meals are prepared three times a day for all the guests and staff attending Esalen for all the public workshops, programs, and retreats.
Who is it for
Those who attend this program come from all walks of life and are super-stoked about living/working at Esalen and learning NVC in this engaged way. Work Scholar students generally have a keen interest in people, their relationships, their own vibrant lives, and a desire to contribute to their families, communities, and the world at large. Many are in key transitions in their lives, and are looking to have some time to be apart from their "other life" so they can become more clear about their upcoming choices.
