New Information Technology Coordinator and Webmaster

New Information Technology Coordinator for CNVC

I am delighted to have a double celebration to announce.

William Poehner, our Information Technology (IT) Coordinator and webmaster, has received an opportunity to follow his passion in working with youth involved in juvenile justice system. This led him to request that we replace him as IT Coordinator as quickly as possible. Congratulations William! We delight in knowing that you will be helping to fulfill the CNVC vision, mission and aim in your "new" role.

We are excited to have Pan Vera take over as new IT Coordinator effective July 21. Pan is an NVC Certification Candidate trainer with 10 years experience with NVC, including four as a trainer. He also has worked for 23 years in the Information Technology field; the last ten as a self-employed web site developer. He has specialized in computer applications designed to help groups work effectively together, exactly what we want our website to help our NVC Community to do. Welcome Pan!

As many of you know, our IT Coordinator and webmaster, William Poehner, has a real passion for sharing NVC, especially with youth. A few weeks ago, he was asked to increase the number of hours he has been working with youth involved in juvenile justice system to a level that he could no longer sustain in conjunction with his CNVC IT Coordinator responsibilities. There was no question as to which path would be most needs-meeting for him. As a result, he requested that CNVC replace him as IT Coordinator as quickly as possible.

As an Admin Team, we were really torn. We definitely wanted to support William in his request. And we wanted to meet needs for awareness and inclusion of the NVC Community by offering an opportunity to provide recommendations for someone to fill this role. At the same time, we were concerned about the amount of time it might take to screen all possible applicants that might arise from such an approach. It seemed of paramount importance to ensure continuity and focus in our IT Coordinator role. We regret that we did not see a way to meet all the alive needs in this situation. We chose the following strategy as the best approach we could find in the time available:

- We asked William and the CNVC Information Technology Committee for their recommendations of people they knew in the NVC Community who had the skills and experience necessary to fulfill the IT Coordinator role.

- We approached an IT search firm here in Albuquerque, who had provided us with a temporary person that had really met William’s needs for support and learning. We asked them to provide some recommendations.

After reviewing resumes from 12 people, and interviewing three, there was no question in our minds or William's that Pan Vera would be the most needs-meeting choice for the NVC Community.

Pan joined the Puget Sound Network of Compassionate Communications in 1998 after attending one of Marshall Rosenberg's trainings. For six years, he participated in the Core Team, first by rebuilding their web site, creating an online email database and then developing an application that allows trainers to list trainings for the public to register. Though he has attended hundreds of hours of training with Marshall and others, he says he really learned NVC in those Core team meetings. He wrote the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws to prepare the way for the organization's 501 (c) 3 filing and served on the Coordinating Committee. He began facilitating NVC training in 2004 in the Puget Sound area of Washington State and continues that activity in New England where he currently lives. His favorite trainings focus on intimate relationships and using NVC in the workplace. Pan is an NVC Certification Candidate. Of NVC, he writes; "this is the most meaningful work I have done and I intend to do it as long as I live."

Pan's Information Systems career began in 1985 when he started using a personal computer to manage his client communication. He became the Superintendent of Systems/Communication at a BP Oil refinery where his duties included responsibility for a staff of 4 and a budget of $1.2 million dollars. He was responsible for software project design, management, development and implementation. He then became a groupware consultant specializing in Lotus Notes and worked for Citibank, Simmons, Associated Grocers and the Oregon Judicial Department among others. His favorite work in this area was designing systems by using his people skills interviewing members of work teams about what was driving them crazy. In 1998 her started i-Commerce Solutions, a web development company and has built over 100 web sites.

Post-Decision Feedback:

-----------------------------------

As outlined above, we had dreamed of being able to ask for pre-decision input in making this decision. And we did not end up making that choice, for the reasons outlined above we mourn our limitations in this situation. We would appreciate receiving your post-decision feedback on this decision by your completing this form.

Thank you for your support. We look forward, with Pan's help, to determining when and how we can collect pre- and post-decision input on the CNVC website.

Feedback provided on the above form will be reviewed by both the Admin Team and the Communication Coordinator, who intends to provide a summary of it in her report at the next CNVC Board meeting on August 13.

Warmly,

Margo Pair
