Nonviolent Communication Dance Floors and the Art of Facilitating NVC Groups

Datum:
2008-06-06 14:00 - 2008-06-08 16:30
Preparation:

In order to get the most from this training, we ask that all participants have some previous training experience with NVC (2-4 days minimum requested, or agreement of facilitators).

Course Description:

    Join us for a special opportunity to deepen your practice of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) using the NVC Dance Floors. Incorporating movement, visual and kinesthetic learning, the 7 NVC Dance Floors are floor maps that people move through to experience and learn the NVC process. Each dance is designed to develop awareness and skills in a particular area of NVC.

   This intermediate training is designed for those who want to deepen their NVC practice, and/or learn the art of effective facilitation from two skilled NVC trainers with extensive experience facilitating a wide variety of groups. In order to make the training accessible to as many people as possible, and to provide choice, there will be two tracks that each participant can choose from:

   TRACK #1:  NVC DANCE FLOORS FOUNDATION TRAINING

  Focus on personal learning and healing. The Dance Floors are a fun, novel and creative way of integrating NVC skills. The consist of spatial maps made up of large cards laid on the floor in layouts called 'dances.' People practicing NVC stand up and 'dance' through the steps of a given process, often with coaching from a trainer or support from another participant.

   Each dance is designed to help people develop awareness and skills in a particular area of NVC, including dialogues with others (3 dances) or inner processes (4 dances) like mediating inner conflicts, self-empathy, and transforming anger/guilt/depression.  Participants in this track will have the opportunity to learn and practice all 7 primary dances at this training.

   We anticipate that the majority of the group will be in this track, because our intention is to welcome all people familiar with NVC who wish to explore a creative learning method... whether or not you are a facilitator or wish to learn facilitation skills.

   NOTE:  We use the word "dance" as a metaphor, as in, "The Dance of Communication."  While the NVC Dance Floors involve movement, they do not involve expressive "dancing" of any kind.  The Dance Floors and related support materials were co-created by Bridget Belgrave and Gina Lawrie from England.

   TRACK #2:  ART OF FACILITATION

   Designed for those who wish to learn and practice facilitation and coaching. This group will get hands-on practice and support in the coaching/facilitating role, and will benefit people who are already facilitators and/or who wish to share NVC with others. We will explore and practice facilitation approaches applicable to any group, take risks as you experiment with them in a supportive environment, grow beyond your habits, and have fun while learning with others.

   Models of facilitation styles and processes help us to recognize our strengths as facilitators and to see where we have room to grow. They make sense of the magic moments and the nightmares we have experienced as group leaders.

   Mastering the art of facilitating involves knowing the territory, trusting the process and listening to intuition. Come and explore with us some facilitation models applicable to any group, take risks as you try them out in a supportive environment, grow beyond your habits, and have fun while learning with others.

   The NVC Dance Floors look simple, yet supporting another to learn and heal on the Dance Floors takes awareness, subtlety and practice. Like any tool the Dance Floors can be used awkwardly or with great beauty. We are eager to share our experience, so that you can support others ‘dancing’ their way into life-connected communication.

   This track will help you to:

• Increase your understanding and range of facilitation styles;
• Manage the tension when it’s hard to meet everyone’s needs;
• Hold the energy to create safety in a group;
• Keep your giraffe ears on and offer empathy before education;
• Get to know our range of seven Dance Floors; and
• Practice coaching others on Dance Floors.
