Putting Yourself at the Center

For the last 3-4 years, I have gathered weekly with a group of women for what the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) community would call an “Empathy Group”.  Essentially, we hold space for each other to explore what’s alive in us, name the universal needs that are not met, savor them, and allow strategies to emerge that meet those precious needs.  Together, we vent, claim our successes, mourn our losses, and find and own our part in life’s experiences. With firmness and gentleness, we hold witness to each other’s inner work.

Grassroots Practice Opportunities?

Announcement: Saint Louis Metropolitan area NVC group seeks individuals for NVC practice and peer support

I was recently contacted by a community member interested in learning more about non-violent communication.  He had hoped I was an NVC trainer and that I might have openings in a practice group... but I had to disappoint him.  I'm not a trainer -- I'm not even trained, in fact.  But his request reminded me that I joined this website because I do care deeply about non-violence.  I also love the ideas that are represented through the work of the Center for Non-Violence Communication.

Stepping into the Fullness of Possibility: Dreaming Big, Making Powerful Requests, and Getting Grounded in Your YES!

Day-long retreat Sunday, February 19th 9:30-4:

Presented in Florida’s Gulf Coast at the Bradenton Center Montessori School and led by NYC’s Dian Killian, PhD., a Certified Trainer with the CNVC and author of NVC books.

How are you meeting your needs? As young human beings, we depend on others to meet our most basic needs---for food, warmth, shelter, comfort and touch (to name just a few!).

As adults, we are the “keeper” of our own needs---although we often give that power away to circumstances or others in our lives.

The Heart of Time Travel

My mother came to stay with me over the holidays.  Our visit wasn't always easy but it turned into one of those times in which I'm grateful to have tools and support that allow conflict to be an opportunity for deeper connection and greater awareness.

I'm sure none of you is surprised that our visit had some challenges.  Family members push our buttons better than most.  My study of Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) has helped me better understand why this is.

Interesting numbers about the NVC community

The other day I got a request from someone who was looking for some stats on NVC for a social media campaign. Others have asked me for such information as well, so, here is what I came up with.

  • We average about 30,000 unique visitors a month to our web site.
  • There are 296 Certified Trainers training in 77 different countries.
  • We have over 26,700 accounts on our web site, with another 6,000 different people on a mailing list.
  • Of the 26,700 accounts, 5200 of those have chosen to be listed as an NVC supporter and 8300 are have told us who they are and what they are interested in about NVC.
  • We added 6560 people who have done business with us in Quickbooks, but were not in either of the other lists.
  • From these three sources we know about, and can reach by e-mail almost 40,000 people interested in NVC.

Musings

So I have been with the NVC group for three years now, a little more. I came to it at a  point where I had run away from life as it was painful and into Auroville. I was looking for hope and a new way to live.

I have over the next few years struggled with finding a distance from my parents, my mental states, a way to live with the society and a way to contribute to it meaningfully and keeping a relationship. Various opportunities came and I dont feel hopeless about life anymore. Still I have not gotten out of the situation fully and am not sure I ever will. For example, I feel paranoid about "conservative" or "middle class" people.

Yelling "NO!" to Stop a Child Actually Works!

Yelling “No!” to stop a child works!
It is guaranteed to stop a child in his tracks and turn their happy, healthy, neuron-growing science exploration into a tirade of tears in seconds.
So what do we do instead?

hi

Hi there

I have created not long ago  a blog called terrazaview...my goal is to share thoughts that arise in me related to our social juncture at this time in the life of the Earth, the Occupy movement and its non violent stance prompted me to do so: Even as I am not there I consider what is happening of global importance...we need to create a new culture, where non violence is THE way to communicate, please those of you that resonate with this idea, if it appeals to you to exchange ideas on the matter, read my blog, and any comment will be welcome.

Namaste
