This summer, we invite any Youth between the ages of 13 to 19 who are ready to immerse in living in community with others to:
*Artistry of Peace means we will ignite our passionate expressions with knowing our truth of what it means to be nonviolence - the largest love, the greatest peace. We will infuse our lives with the principles of respect for all life and the practice of non-injury to living things. Being Nonviolence, truly living Ahimsa, is based on the belief that violence has harmful effects on those who commit it. We will create peace in the world by creating art from our own authentic truth.

OUR DAYS TOGETHER: Play in the Wild! Trek Leaders will share their passions and practices for being nonviolence – this could include Nonviolent Communication skills, history, art, yoga, Tai Chi, Medicine Poetry, Vision Quest, Sweat Lodge, Dance Lodge, improvisation, stand-up, dramatic play, song, music, and cultural traditions. Participants will be encouraged to lead on topics of their own passionate interest. Staff for 2011: Catherine Cadden, Jesse Wiens, Kate Raffin, Korina Campos, Eric Bowers, and Hannah Muller.
OUR GIVE-AWAY: In many sacred traditions a GIVE-AWAY is part of life to offer the community stories, teachings, and nourishment. On our last night together, we will present art and a performance to the local community to "give away" what we have learned as individuals and as a group on the path of peace.
LIVING IN COMMUNITY: We will engage in the practices of becoming more attuned to what motivates us and choosing strategies that will bring the most aliveness and connection to ourselves and with the group. We will create a safe nonjudgmental environment focused on Being Nonviolence. This requests each of us to leave alcohol, recreational drugs, guns, weapons, and smoking at home. After opening circle we will have a ceremonial "unplugging" where we will place all electronics in a safe space to be held for the duration of our time together. This is to give us a unique journey of returning to connection with ourselves, each other, and the land we live on. Folks are welcome to "plug" back into the matrix after closing circle.
CERTIFICATES/CREDIT: Hours from this training can be applied to certification with the Center for Nonviolent Communication and may apply towards course study in certain schools or CEU's. You will receive a certificate for 9 days of Nonviolent Communication training. FOOD: We will create a rotation of leadership and support in the kitchen to provide meals for the whole group. In the practice of Ahimsa, we will provide organic vegetarian meals. In the tradition of Play in the Wild!, these will be gourmet, unique, delicious flavors from around the world. If you have a particular cuisine you are wanting to learn about in learning your Artistry be sure to mention it during your interview.
OPTIONAL EXTRA NIGHT: Youth who would enjoy staying an extra night for play and integration can depart the morning of July 3rd. We request an additional $35 for youth who choose this option to cover the additional costs. In celebration of "plugging" back in we host movies on the back deck!
TRAVEL: Plan to arrive by 4 pm June 23rd and depart by 4pm July 2. Youth who stay for the optional night of integration and play should plan to depart by noon on July 3rd. Play in the Wild! will provide transportation from the Raleigh/Durham International Airport (RDU) on June 23rd, and to RDU on July 2nd and 3rd.
COST: We offer our work freely in service to peace. At the same time, we request a monetary contribution of $695 to cover the costs of this unique camp as well as offer sustainability for the Staff who make it all possible. We ask for an initial non-refundable deposit of $125 to set an intention of commitment and hold your place on the circle. The remainder is due in full once you receive your registration packet. We also offer monthly payment plans, for those who are interested. Please contact us if you would like help finding a creative solution for covering your tuition. If you are financially able to contribute more to support the sustainability of trek leaders and to ensure that nobody is turned away for lack of funds, consider giving to our Support Fund.
REGISTRATION: Apply by clicking on the "Sign Up Here" button at the bottom of this page. Apply early, because spots are limited! Once we receive your application we will contact you to schedule an interview with you and your parent/guardian. These interviews are designed to assess medical or behavioral histories that could pose a threat to your safety or the safety of others. We review ALL applicants. Once your interview is complete and we have all agreed that this Play in the Wild! camp is for you, then you will be mailed a registration packet to be filled out and returned to us, along with the remainder of your tuition contribution.
